Saint Louis Visionary Awards is proud to recognize the 2015 visionary honorees: Kelly Pollock, Executive Director of COCA (Outstanding Arts Professional); Amy Kaiser, Chorus Director of St. Louis Symphony (Successful Working Artist); Thelma Steward, community volunteer (Major Contributor to the Arts); Ilene Berman, public art advocate (Community Arts Educator); Shualee Cook, playwright (Emerging Artist); Cecilia Nadal, cross-cultural leader (Community Impact Artist); and Freida Wheaton, arts activist (Community Impact Artist). The Saint Louis Visionary Awards is one of the most prestigious recognitions in the local arts community. Saint Louis Visionary Awards celebrates the numerous contributions and achievements of women who work in or support the arts in St. Louis. Since its founding in 2002, over 60 women have received this recognition.

“There were so many women in the region who are doing such transformational work in the arts; the selection committee worked overtime selecting this year’s Saint Louis Visionaries,” said Sara Burke, Co-Chair of the Saint Louis Visionary Awards Planning Committee.

“We couldn’t be more impressed with the 2015 honorees. They truly deserve this recognition.”

This year, the St. Louis Visionary Awards is happy to announce that in their 10+ years of honoring local female artists and arts administrators, they are honoring their first transgender woman Shualee Cook as the Emerging Artist Honoree.

Cook, 37, is being honored for her skills as a playwright. Cook’s “An Invitation Out” opens at Mustard Seed Theater Friday, April 17.

Formerly under the auspices of Grand Center, Inc., the Visionary Awards has been relaunched as the Saint Louis Visionary Awards by an independent committee of women (many of them past Visionaries) dedicated to promoting the arts in St. Louis.

The 2015 Saint Louis Visionary Awards Ceremony, sponsored by TR,i Architects and Steward Family Foundation, is scheduled for Monday, April 27, 2015, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Sun Theater at Grand Center Arts Academy. Adrienne Davis and Kim Eberlein are co-chairing the event.
