Shooting on the 2000 block of Russell
Via Yahoo's LGBTA listserv, The Vital Voice got wind of an attempted robbery, a shooting, and a possible death on the 2000 block of Russell on Sunday, April 27. St. Louis City Police spokesperson Schron Jackson confirmed an incident happened, sending an email that stated:
At 5:27 a.m. Sunday, detectives responded to the 2000 block of Russell for a shooting, the victim was en route to an area hospital.
An investigation revealed that the victim, W/M 28, was entering the front door of his residence with two friends, when two unknown black males approached, one displayed a handgun and announced a robbery. Believing that the gun was not real, one of the friends attempted to wrestle the gun away from the suspect. The suspect shot the victim one time in the abdomen. He entered his residence and collapsed on the floor.
The suspects escaped on foot in an unknown direction and the victim remains at the hospital in critical condition.
Police spokesperson Jeremy Stockmann also added that as of last night, the victim was in critical, but stable condition. The Vital Voice will report again on the story as more develops. As it stands now, the robbery does not appear to be a hate crime.
