The LGBT Center of St. Louis experienced a break-in and a burglary sometime late last night, according to Center staff.
The Center's front door glass was kicked in late last night. The postman for the Center noticed the damage this morning and called the police immediately.
Christine Elbert, a member of the Center's Board of Directors, said that she doesn't believe it was anything but a random crime.
"It looks like it was just simply a random break-in," Elbert explained. "They came in, took what could be easily grabbed and left quickly."
The thieves made off with a television and a Wii U gaming console.
Elbert said that they were very fortunate that no other property was stolen and there was no other damage to the premises.
Despite the break-in, Elbert wants to reassure to the community that the Center will remain open and fully staffed.
"We're here to create and maintain a safe space for our community," she said. "We will continue to do so."
A police report has been filed. No arrests have been made at this time.
The LGBT Center of St. Louis is located at 4337 Manchester Ave. in The Grove and can be reached at (314) 472-5428.
