Not many queens can say they’ve snatched the crown on RuPaul’s Drag Race, but Chad Michaels was the first to take the reign on RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race, and this queen is back in St. Louis for Queens in Space. It’s been two years since Michaels graced the Queens in Space stage, and while everyone eagerly awaits the return, let’s take a look at some of the sickening things this queen has been up to since his last time in space.
Known for his nearly identical impersonation of Cher, Michaels has long been a fan favorite of Cher herself. They first met at a fundraising event in Malibu, Calif., in the early 2000s. Cher even tweeted in response to a fan question, “I Saw him He is GREAT!” Then in February of this year, Michaels performed for Cher and the ladies on The Talk in a wonderful blue sequined piece identical to a piece Cher wears during her Classic Cher show in Las Vegas.
The Talk wasn’t the only show since Drag Race on which this queen was featured, however. Michaels also landed a walk-on role on the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls in late 2015. Michaels donned his famous Cher look alongside Jimmy Watcher, who is known for impersonating Barbra Streisand, to protest outside the cupcake shop where the main characters, Max and Caroline, work. Earlier in 2015, Michaels also made a cameo appearance on the show Jane the Virgin as an officiant in Jane’s wedding.
When Michaels isn’t busy traveling the world in drag, he performs with the Dreamgirls Revue, an impersonation revue in San Diego, Calif. The show has been performed for nearly three decades, and Michaels has become one of the show’s main performers.
Catch Chad Michaels at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 1, during Queens in Space at the Moonrise Hotel in the Delmar Loop. V
