Celebrate contemporary art in the Central West End with the opening of several new shows at the neighborhood’s award-winning galleries on Thursday, June 8, including:
Portals & Dimensions at Duane Reed Gallery — 4729 McPherson Ave.
Works by Greg Pettit, Benjamin Lowder and Francesco Lo Castro. Runs through Aug. 5.
Mark Hillard at Houska Gallery — 4728 McPherson Ave.
Hillard’s primary interests are color and geometry of the human form. Most recently, Mark has, experimented with enlarging sketched compositions digitally, printing on canvas and then finishing in oil or acrylic. This investigation almost always manifests itself in the figure and the inherent geometry of the form and its context.
Almost Now, Just Then at projects+gallery — 4733 McPherson Ave.
Works by St. Louis artists Lyndon Barrois Jr., Addoley Dzegede, Jen Everett, Kahlil Robert Irving, Katherine Simóne Reynolds and WORK/PLAY (Kevin and Danielle McCoy). Runs through July 29.
All shows will open with receptions from 5-8 p.m., which are free and open to the public. Neighborhood visitors will also be able to enjoy music by the Alberto Patiño Jazz Trio while they stroll down McPherson Avenue.
